…. In all your ways acknowledge Him (God), And He will make your paths straight – Proverbs 3:6
What does it mean to acknowledge God?
When you acknowledge a person, either by a nod or a smile or gesture, you are saying yes, I see you are present, or thank you for being here, etc. And when you acknowledge someone over you, or superior to you in some way, you defer to them, and in essence say, either by word or action; “you take the lead”, “you have precedence”, or “I will follow you”. It’s almost an automatic instinct.
In the same way we need to acknowledge that God is God; indeed, that He is sovereign. We need to acknowledge that He rules over the affairs of man. We need to acknowledge that He is the one who has the power to direct our lives and we surrender it to Him as our Head. We need to acknowledge that He is Lord and Master. We need to acknowledge that He knows all and that our lives would be well guided or steered in the right direction only by Him because He knows the end from the beginning. As it is, before the foundation of the world, before we were formed in the womb, God knew us and chose us and redeemed us by the blood of His dear Son. Can we then do anything other than acknowledge Him as our Lord, and more than that, do we not then owe Him our very lives? He who has done so much for us is worthy of all glory, honor and praise. More than we will ever be able to repay.
But besides all that, it will be well for us all the days of our lives when and only when we submit ourselves to God, to be under His direction and counsel and acknowledge His Lordship over us. Jesus is the Counselor. He is the Only Wise God. As the Lord says in Jeremiah, His plans are to prosper us, to give us a hope and a future. And if you think that anything has power to stand against what God has planned for you, remember these two verses.
There is no wisdom nor counsel nor understanding against the Lord. Proverbs 21:3.
For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? Isaiah 14:27
