The Bible begins with the phrase “In the beginning, God …”. It simply establishes the fact of God. God was there before this world began and God will be there when this world ends as it is Himself who brings that about as well.

God identified Himself to Moses as ‘I Am’, ‘The Ever Existing One’, ‘He has neither beginning of days nor end of days’. In Revelations He is called ‘The One who is and was and is to come’. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever more. He is the Everlasting God.

The Word of God, The Bible, is our foundation. That is why God says to keep this in our heart. Everywhere and at all times we should meditate on it and surround ourselves with it. It will keep us secure.

Times change, people change, but the Word of God never changes. What is written in the Book is for all ages. Irrespective of time or place or people – the Word of God is eternal.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-6

I remember growing up with these words. People say “Let the child decide when he grows up. They need to find out for themselves”. But say you saw a pit a horrible deep pit and your child walking toward it. The child does not know better; but you as a parent know that if he falls in it he will not survive. Will you let him find out for himself? Of course not! There is no opportunity to learn if the child does not survive. Yet we allow our children to perish and rob them of eternal life.

We need to know this for ourselves and teach our children this – There is only one God and He has revealed Himself to us through His Word, the Bible.

Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” and also “the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
